Who Makes Your Decisions?

Do you know what you really want? Do you spend most of your time on things which are meaningful to you? How often do you listen to your heart, to your inner self and not to other people or your ego?

We all suffer. And one of the most common reason of our suffering is dissatisfaction. We have a lot of desires, we tend to want something that we can't get. What is interesting is that we want the things that we don't really need. I think that understanding of this simple truth can make our life so much easier.

Modern psychology proposes that our thoughts are made of genetically influenced and domain-specific mental algorithms or modules, designed to solve specific evolutionary problems of the past. Depending on what module is dominant in the particular moment we can make a decision based on this module command. And this mechanism is not that bad, the only problem is that there have been so many changes since it was created! What could be extremely useful 10,000 years ago doesn't make any sense in modern life. But we are still driven by this ancient system of making decisions and we don't even notice how we torture ourselves with it. It is like to have several managers in your head. One moment you listen to one boss, 5 minutes later the most influenced is another one. And you can spend your whole life by listening to them. And sometimes they can give you a great advice, but they also can literally ruin your life. If you want to be happy, you need to learn how to become your own boss and don't just be the slave of your own mind.

What does it mean? Imagine that you are craving for something so bad, that it hurts if you cannot get it. And when you experience this pain you start to think of how you can get rid of it. I found out that usually my pain is coming from following my little bosses' desires, not my own. I separate these guys from my soul. And I believe that my soul is strong enough to fight for itself.

So what do I do to stop suffering? I am focusing on my life purpose. And I am listening to my inner self. I am trying my best to be aware of my feelings, my desires, my thoughts. Unfortunately, most of the times I become really aware after I started to experience pain. I am not at the level of preventing it yet. But realizing the idea of wrong beliefs and desires is already very helpful. I would say that it is extremely important to know your truth which should not be too far from the main ideas of morality.

I believe that our life should be built around our purpose. If you haven't found one yet, you will be managed by your little bosses. Good luck with that! On other hand, life purpose gives you freedom. It helps you to come back to reality, to be Authentic You!

When you are craving for something really bad, ask yourself: is this really something that I need? Will it make me happy in a long run, not just in a short term? How many times you wanted something and were disappointed when you got what you wanted? How grateful are you for the things you already have in your life? How often you thank your life for people who care about you? How often you just enjoy the moment? How often you are just you? How much time do you spend with no worries about other people's opinions, or not trying to prove something? Are you making your decisions based on your bosses commands or by hearing your inner self?

I think that all these questions can be very helpful. But I feel like my main message is that if you suffer try not to blame others first of all. And do not blame yourself either! In the end of the day we are all in the same boat, with the same natural selection setup. Nobody is perfect. But I believe that if we listen to ourselves, to each other, if we at least try to understand ourselves and people around us, this world will become a better place!

Listen to your soul, to your inner self and help others to be heard!

Be Strong And Love Yourself!
