Pattern Review: McCall's M7687

Hello, hello, my darlings! Today I want to share my experience with McCall's Pattern M7687. I really liked it! Not everything came out perfectly, but pattern itself was great!

I made a view D with sleeves from view F. I wanted to keep it classy and I felt like straight simple sleeves would look better on me. It was not hard to sew, the instructions were not bad. I did get frustrated with understitching instructions, but it was just me, because I was really new to sewing so I had no idea what did it mean. I had to google it and to watch some YouTube videos, lol. Everything else was pretty straightforward.

I did make a mistake when I was working on this project, but again not because pattern was not good, it was just my learning experience.

I didn't check if the pattern size was a good fit for me. This shirt was one of my first sewing projects and I didn't really know anything about fitting. I just assumed that if your measurements are the same as on envelop, the garment would fit you perfectly... Ha-ha-ha! Not in my case! And I didn't even know how to take the right measurements. I can't say that the shirt is too big, but it obviously could be more fitted. At least from my opinion. When I finished the project I realized that I could easily take out about an inch from my bust and waist area. I am trying to make muslins first now before I go to fashion fabric. My body is not very standard, I have very small chest, almost like a child, but my hips are pretty normal. So usually I am one size smaller at the upper area of my body, than at the bottom. And my top part is usually smaller that the smallest size of the commercial patterns. Of course some of them are really tiny, but if I want to make something close fitted most of the times I need to make some alterations.

I absolutely love the fabric that I used. My Aunt helped me to find it. I got it at Joann's. Unfortunately I don't have the link to this fabric, but I did get it in quilting section and there were a lot of similar designs. If you like it, I would recommend to check out quilting cotton at Joann's. The color is amazing and I think it looks great with my skin tone. From this project I learned that if the garment has not a close fit style, then fabric should have a lot of drape. And if you choose the stiff medium weight fabric, you need to make sure that the pattern fits you really well. I am thinking about buying more of this fabric and making a jacket or something. And again, the color is absolutely gorgeous and I love it!

I do love the result of my hard work, ha-ha! I think princess seams look very nice, better than some of the darts that I have on the shirts that I bought in the store. Oh and of course the best part is the buttons on the back! So cute!

I probably will use this pattern again, but I will definitely make it smaller. I think I look like a little princess in this shirt! It makes me happy!

I am wishing you a lot of luck in what you are doing!
