Pattern Review: Simplicity 1566a, views A and C.
Hi everyone! I hope you had a wonderful weekend! I was lazy and feel bad that I haven't done too much. But I know that I can always improve my behavior and be better!
Today I want to share what I think about Simplicity Pattern 1566 Babies' Separates.
I have a friend who has a baby. And his baby is so cute that I wanted to make something for him. I reviewed so many patterns and didn't know which one to choose. My friend lives in Russia and I couldn't take his baby's measurements by myself. So I needed the pattern which would fit the size that my friend gave me but at the same which would give me some room in case I picked not exactly the right size. That is why I decided to pick the pattern with two separate pieces for knit fabric.
I really like the snaps on the top! And I have a video about attaching the snaps easy in case you have troubles with that. You can find it on my IGTV by following this link: How to sew on snaps easy.
The instruction for the top was easy, but I did have some concerns about the order. For some reason the instruction says that you need to do sleeve hem first (step #7) and sleeve underarm seam after (step #9). I followed the instruction and I cannot say that I like the result too much. I mean, it is okay, but I think it would look better if I did sleeve underarm seam first and sleeve hem after. It still looks cute, but I wanted to point it out for you so you can make it even better!
The pants are very simple! If you are a beginner like me, this pattern can be a good option for you. It has only 2 pieces (front and back) and simple instruction. I made my little pants from knit fabric, but when I finished them I realized that they might look better if I used woven fabric. But I like that pants and top are made of the same fabric and top should definitely be made of knits. So it worked out well.
I did make a mistake when I was working on my project. I selected the wrong stitch on my sewing machine and my bottom stitch lines on the pants didn't look neat. I wish I would know better how to work with thin knit fabric. I am still learning and definitely need more practice. Not only with knits but with different types of fabric.
Overall I like this pattern a lot! It is simple and cute. I would recommend it to others. And if I have my own child one day I will use it :-)

Unfortunately I don't have the picture of the baby because he hasn't gotten the package yet. Maybe I will be able to add it later. I hope the photos of top and pants will give you some idea of how the pattern works.
That is all I wanted to say about the pattern. But I do want to add that even if you make sewing mistakes, it is still better than you do nothing. We all learn from practice. The more you sew, the more knowledge you get. Don't let the fear of making mistakes stopping you from starting a new sewing project! And this idea actually can be applied to everything we do. We always will make some mistakes, there are things we cannot avoid. But the more we act, the smarter we become!
I am wishing everyone to be bold, to overcome all fears, and to work on your projects with the smile on your face!
