How To Overcome Laziness.
Hello my dear readers! Thank you for reading my blog!
Today I want to share with you my biggest problem. And the name for it is LAZINESS! Yes, by nature I am extremely lazy person. I just want to sit on a couch, eat yummy food and watch my favorite TV show. And it is hard for me to do the work, especially not in the office, but at home. When I come to the office I kind of don't have any other option than to work on my tasks. But at home... Here I can do whatever I want. And if I can do whatever, why wouldn't I just be lazy? Well, deep inside I know, that this is not an option for me. So I developed some ideas which helped me to decrease the level of my laziness and be more or less productive.
Here is the link to the video for my today's post: "How To Overcome Laziness".
So here is my list for overcoming laziness:
1. Eat Healthy. The food that we consume gives us energy. If you have a diet full of healthy nutrients, you will have more energy. It is that simple. Try to pay attention to how your body feels after you eat a lot of sugar, or after you eat veggies with fish, for example. Alcohol can take away your energy and make you even more lazy. I don't drink alcohol at all, but if you like to have glass of wine here and there, there is nothing wrong about it, as long as you know how much you can drink without losing your productivity the next day. So try to stay on healthy side.
2. Have a list of goals. If you have meaning in life, something that is important to you, it might help you to overcome laziness. Our desires can be very powerful. If they don't turn into cravings, they can be great motivation. Make a list of your desires and think of how you can become successful in them.
3. List of specific tasks. Based on your high-level goals you can create list of specific activities which should help you to achieve them. A lot of times we experience laziness just because we don't know what exactly we need to do. The best way to force yourself to be more productive is to write down list of tasks the night before. For some reason tasks which are written down have some magical effect on my brain and whatever I add to my list I complete 99% of times. And if I haven't created the list the night before, chances are that I will do nothing the whole day...
4. Develop good habits. Habit usually doesn't require a lot of efforts and because of that it is easy to perform the tasks which are part of your daily routine. You just don't need to think too much about things which you habitually do. And sometimes we get lazy just because of our thinking. No thinking - no laziness, ha-ha.
5. Do difficult tasks when you have more energy. We have days when we feel a lot of power and cannot stop working, and we have days when we want to do nothing. When you get lucky and feel empowered, use this precious moments for making your life easier. Maybe you can organize your apartment so some work will take less efforts in future, maybe you can cook your meals for 2-3 days. I love to sew and when I start a new project I use my weekends for cutting out garment pieces from fabric, because from my point of view it is the most difficult part. And then on weekdays I can do sewing itself.
6. Think of helping others. When you know that what you are doing can make someone's life better, it can increase level of your motivation drastically. So when you feel lazy, try to think of some action which will have positive effect on other person's life. And think, how will you feel about yourself if you complete this task or not.
7. Think about your future self. This is one of the greatest motivation for me personally. Even thou I love to help other people and I do want to have meaning in life, I am also highly focused on making my life the best as I can. Why create for yourself situations, where you suffer? If you are lazy today, you will pay for it tomorrow. It is always like that. There is no place to hide from this payment. Life will always get back to you and will take whatever you owe. Again, ALWAYS! If you want your future to be bright, you need to invest in it today.
8. Remember that great things take time. Sometimes we feel lazy because we don't see the result of our hard work right away. But this is absolutely normal. If you want to achieve awesome results, you need to work on them for a while, little by little. But it is not bad. You just divide and conquer. Today you can do one thing, tomorrow another, and step by step you improve your overall being and in a long run you win. Just remember about it and try to focus on long-term reward instead of focusing on short-term pleasures.
In the end I want to add that if you do nothing, you will feel some disturbance in your brain. When we do nothing, we don't get rewards. When we don't get rewards our dopamine level drops. When dopamine level drops, we start generate action plans in our brain on how to increase this level. A human was created to act. If it wasn't this way, we would not survive. But unfortunately nowadays it became too easy to get pleasures and increase dopamine level without efforts. And sometimes we are chasing easy pleasures instead of investing our time in long-term goals. Remember, your choice today affects your future. The lazier you are now, the higher price you will pay tomorrow. So when you feel like you need to do something, do something useful. Maybe it would be not so easy, that's okay, but you will win at the end, I promise!
You are the creator of your own life, make it as beautiful as you can!
