Learn From The Mistakes Of Others
Hi Everyone! Do you know that 59 years ago today the fist human was launched in space? His name was Yuri Gagarin. His flight lasted 108 minutes. It reminds me that humans always progress and invent something new. And we push our limits in discovering new areas. But today I prepared a little bit different topic.
Here is the link to the video for today's article: Learn From The Mistakes Of Others.
I want to introduce to you the quote by Otto von Bismark, "Only a fool learns from his own mistakes. The wise man learns from the mistakes of others".
I must say that I am not fully agree with this quote because everyone makes mistakes, even smartest people. And it is naive to think that it is possible to avoid mistakes. And I am sure Otto von Bismark made a lot of mistakes by himself and was not a fool. But at the same time I think that we do need to use other peoples' mistakes as a learning opportunity.
But even thou it sounds very obvious, we still don't do it. Why? Because people have tendency to judge others instead of learning from them. When we see how another person makes mistake, we often have following thoughts, "This could never happen to me, I am not that stupid", or "I would never do anything like that, I cannot make this mistake". But you know what? Life is unpredictable. And whatever looks like "It will never happen to me" can actually happen.
So instead of judging other people, we can use their mistakes as an example and project it on our life. Of course it doesn't mean that you should apply to yourself any negative experience that you see around you, but some of information might be very useful.
Life is not about being perfect. Life is about using opportunities that it gives to you, including opportunity to learn from the mistakes of others.
I want to share my experience of learning. I am very emotional and secretive person. And I most of my life I was surrounded by people less emotion than I was. But at some point I met few very emotional people and I got a chance to see, how uncontrolled emotions can look like from the side. And I realized that I can look the same way. Instead of judging these people, I decided to work on my emotional intelligence. I focused on my self-development. It helped me a lot to make some improvements in this area.
We all have some imperfections, and we always will. But it doesn't mean that we cannot try to be the best version of ourselves by looking at the mistakes of others.
Please take care of yourself!
