Must Read Books
Hello my dear readers! I hope you are doing well!
I studied a lot lately and tried to learn new things, mostly related to finance.
I am also trying to read more non-fiction books. And today I want to share with you two absolutely awesome books that I recently read. And it won't be a book review post. I mostly want to point out the ideas which are extremely important for self-development. Because this is what my blog is about!
Here is the link to the video for today's article: Must Read Books.
First book that I want to recommend today is "Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup" by John Carreyrou. John is a journalist, he worked in The Wall Street Journal when he wrote this book. And he made the whole investigation about the company Theranos that he was writing about. This company wanted to create a blood testing machine which could make about 200 different tests just out of drop of blood. The problem was that they wanted to create this medical device, but never were able to. But they told investors and patients that the device was working properly. And CEO of the company, Elizabeth Holmes, was able to attract a lot of investors and raise millions of dollars without even creating the device. She had nothing real to offer, but very successful and powerful people trusted her and even Walgreens signed the contract with Theranos.
I am not going to go too much into details of what happened with Theranos, you can read the book and get the full picture. Now let me tell you what I found extremely important for anyone, who cares about development.
We all have dreams, desires, goals. Sometimes we achieve them, sometimes not. We usually get upset when the reality doesn't match our expectations, our desires and dreams. If it happens, you have two choices: to accept the reality and adjust your dreams/goals, or to try to push the reality away, and be delusional. I recommend to choose option #1. But if you believe that the second option is better, you need to read this book and see what type of consequences this choice can create. Of course the Theranos story is an extreme example. But it is much easier to learn from something almost crazy and hard to believe in. This is how we remember things.
When we cannot accept the reality, when we push it away, sooner or later it will come back to us and will hit us even harder. And the more you are in your dreams and away from real life, the more problems you will get. We cannot control the whole world around us, but we can control our reaction to what is going on. And if life says 'let it go', or 'be patient', or 'make some changes', we need to listen. It's okay not to achieve some goals. Sometimes we want something that is not really good for us. And it is not too smart to stay ignorant and avoid reality. "Bad Blood" is a perfect example of how this ignorance can ruin your life. So try to learn how to stay present and how to accept reality and adjust your goals.
The second book I want to recommend is "Unshakeable: Your Guide To Financial Freedom" by Tony Robbins. If you want to know the mechanism and some truth about financial markets and investments, if you want to make compounding work for you, and if you want to avoid some mistakes related to financial decisions, this book is for you. But this is not the main reason I decided to bring it up.
In one of last chapters Tony talks about real wealth, and it is not about money. My blog is about inner strength, and this is what is this chapter about. After Tony Robbins with Peter Mallouk explain to you, how to grow financial wealth, you get the most important advice: how to be happy. Tony says that even if you become very rich, it doesn't mean you cannot still be miserable. But if you learn how to master your mind, you can become really free. And he teaches you how to do that. How to work on your fears, how to stay calm and how to be the master of your mind, not its slave. Very valuable information. I love the combination of finance and personal development in this book. A lot of people just try to teach how to make money, so they can make money out of this teaching. And Tony Robbins sent a very beautiful message full of love through his book about financial freedom. He didn't stop on money making, he used this desire to be rich to teach people how to be truly happy. And it's really amazing!
I hope that you will find some time to read these two books and that you will pay attention to the important parts.
