A Prayer For Stress

Hi my darlings! Thank you for reading my new post!

Today I would like to share a cute prayer that can be very helpful in the moment of stress caused by uncertainty.

Here is the link to the video for today’s article: A Prayer For Stress.

I don’t know what future will bring me, sometimes I get worries about things that might happen. I am in situation that I have never experienced before. I don’t really have any problems and I am very happy with everything, but my mind still creates some negative scenarios. My boyfriend Justin shared with me a verse from the bible that can be very helpful in the moments of uncertainty.

I am not a religious person. I do believe in God, and I am very spiritual, but I don’t read bible by myself, I don’t go to church, but I always wanted to learn more about Jesus and his teachings because he was very kind and I want to be kinder myself. If I decided to pick the religion to follow, it would be Buddhism. I love to watch talks by Thich Nhat Hanh, who was a Buddhist monk from Vietnam. But I think in any religion we can find some wisdom and I am happy that Justin shares with me some cute verses. And at the same time, I gave him a book “True Love” by Thich Nhat Hanh and Justin read it and liked it a lot. I always wanted to have relationships where I can share my spiritual ideas with my partner and he could help me to grow, and I am glad that I found someone who is interested in the same things and that we can learn from each other how to be kinder and more compassionate.

So here is the scripture that Justin shared with me:

Matthew 6:25-34

6:25

Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?

6:26

Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

6:27

And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?

6:28

And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin,

6:29

yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

6:30

But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

6:31

Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’

6:32

For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.

6:33

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

6:34

Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

This verse says that we shouldn’t worry too much about material things. But I love 6:33-34 in particular. If we pay attention, we will see, that God (or life itself, if you don’t believe in God) always gives us everything we need. And even if we feel like we are lacking something, it is only because whatever we desire is probably not what we really need. It is better to be grateful for what we have and focus on present moment. In Buddha teachings we also hear a lot about focusing on present moment. What good can you do today for yourself and others?

And I also would like to share a little prayer which might be helpful in moments of stress:

“Father God, help me to trust you more every day. Remind me of your extravagant, generous love for me and my family. Give me clarity and confirmation that we are on the right path. Let me lay my worries at your feet and not take them up again.”

Worries don’t really help; they only narrow our vision and make us less creative. There are things we can control, and things that we should accept. And there are things that never happen and just created by our worries. Don’t waste your time on these things. Be harmonized with reality, be present. And let something that is lying outside of your power be resolved by greater intelligence. We only know so much, the future that we are trying to predict, or avoid, might be completely different from what our mind can picture. But every day we might have tasks that we know we need to perform in order to make life better. I choose to focus on these tasks and the things that I am grateful for instead of thinking about my worries! I hope you will do the same!
