My Trip To Washington DC

Hi my darlings! Thank you for reading my article! today I want to share how I traveled to Washington DC and what did I like about it.

Here is the link to the video for today’s post: My Trip To Washington DC

the purpose of my trip was submission of documents for Russian Passport. If you live in US and your passport is getting to be expired or already expired, you can apply for a new one. There are three locations where you can do this: New York City NY, Houston TX and Washington DC. I have never been to DC and I wanted to see The White House, so I decided to go there. Some companies offer a service of submitting documents in Chicago, but this is actually illegal, I emailed Russian Embassy in US and asked them if I can apply for passport without personal appointment and do something online or by mail and they replied that the applicant should come to the embassy or council in person. They check documents, ask to sign them and they take your photo for the passport. It takes up to three months to get the passport ready. You can give them USPS envelope with a stamp and a tracking number and your passport will be mailed to you in your envelope when it’s done. So there is no need to come back to Washington DC again to pick it up.

Here is the link to Russian Embassy website where you can find all the details. I must say that in Russia we have two types of passport. One is kind of local, everyone must have it. It is similar to ID in US. And another passport is for international traveling. So I applied for international one. I don’t know how to get local Russian passport, mine will be expired in 4 years, so I still have time to figure it out.

I was staying in a cute hotel Yours Truly. But even thou it wasn’t bad, I wouldn’t book it again. I cannot explain why. It was just not my type I guess. But I could walk to a lot of places from this hotel, location wasn’t too bad.

So on Tuesday morning I walked to Russian Embassy, it took me about an hour or so. When I walked, I saw a lot of other embassies, I liked Japanese and British. The process of submitting my documents took about 10 minutes, it was fast and even pleasant.

After my passport appointment I decided to visit Washington National Cathedral. It was so beautiful! I highly recommend to see it, if you are in the area.

Then I came back to my hotel and from there I decided to walk to The White House. On my way I found a cute French bakery called Paul. It was very casual, but I liked it.

Before I saw The White House, I saw The Eisenhower Building. It was so big, so massive, so historical! I loved it! And The White House looked kind of small compare to Eisenhower Building, ha-ha. But it was white and looked very cute with all the green grass and trees around it. Then I saw Treasury Building which reminded me of some buildings in Moscow, I liked it too. And after that I walked to Washington Monument, which looked pretty cool as well. Was interesting to see it up close.

Not too far from Washington Monument there was a pedal boat rental in Tidal Basin. So I took this little boat and enjoyed the views from this water reservoir, it was fun!

Then I saw super beautiful landmark - World War II Memorial. It was so nice! I couldn’t stop looking at it.

And then I walked back to the hotel. In total I walked 13 miles that day. And I was wearing wedges, so I walked 13 miles on high heels, ha-ha. I wasn’t sore, but I did damage my cute shoes a little bit.

I had a dinner in a very nice grilled seafood restaurant. I loved it so much! Especially oysters! So good!

My trip was very short, but very pleasant. I liked Washington DC, mostly because it was different from Chicago so I had new impressions and it was fun to be in a different environment. I do like Chicago better. And I don’t think that Washington is my favorite destination. But I am very thankful that I visited this beautiful place and that I was so lucky with the weather and everything.

Please be open to new experiences and adventures!
