The Importance Of Taking A Pause


Hello my dear readers! I have been so busy lately. I feel bad that I haven't spent enough time on my blog. And my today's article will be not too big. But I am going on vacation soon, and I will take a pause and will put my thoughts together. And today I want to talk about the importance of taking a pause.

Sometimes we don't even notice what we are doing. And we can take some actions which are not good for us because we don't make time to think about consequences. Our brain can get excited when we can get something new or something unpredictable. It's just the nature of dopamine and reward system. When we don't know if we win or lose, dopamine level gets higher and we get more motivated. This is why gambling can be so addictive, because there is some uncertainty.

In general dopamine increase is great, it helps us to achieve our goals. But what if we get too excited over reward that in long run can harm us? Not everything we want is healthy. That is why taking a pause can be very beneficial. This pause can help to use analytical part of the brain and avoid problems in future.


I know three really nice ways to take a pause.

  1. Meditation. If you focus on your breath, observe your thoughts, your feelings, it will be much easier for you to slow down and avoid unnecessary actions. Train your brain little by little everyday. it can be just a minute of mindful breathing, it doesn't have to be anything too complecated. But even this one minute can make a big difference when you make decisions.

  2. Change your focus. If you feel like you overthink specific problem too much and you get lost, it might be helpful, to take a pause from this problem by switching your focus on something else. For example, if something goes wrong in your relationships, you can for a little bit be more focused at work on self-development. If you got too puzzled with some work related project, you can try to spend more time with your family. Sometimes when we think about one issue for too long, we lose creativity. And if you change your focus, you can get this creativity back after short pause.

  3. Vacation. This is my favorite type of pause! We all need some time off. I am very bad with taking vacations. But I am trying to get better. It is so important to have some rest, to relax, to be in a friendly and kind environment. I can't wait for my vacation that I am going to spend with my loving aunt and uncle!

These are my simple tips. I hope you will find them useful. And just be aware of how dopamine can push you into unwanted actions. We all have desires, but some of them it is better to avoid and pause can help you with that.
